Paper Trading Crypto — How to Test a Bot Before It Spends
Paper trading (demo trading) uses live prices and fake fills. You find out whether a rule would have traded — without spending coins. That is the point. It is not a profit forecast. The useful skill is picking the right paper tool, then watching a real week — not a green number on a quiet afternoon.
Two different paper tools
Search often mixes them up. They solve different jobs.
- TradingView paper trading — a simulator on their chart. Default virtual balance is usually $100,000. You click buy and sell. Good for learning the TradingView panel and testing discretionary ideas.
- Bot paper mode — the same automated rules you would run live (DCA ladder, Supertrend signal, Adaptive Grid). Prices come from the exchange. Fills are virtual. Good for “will this bot behave?”
If you only want to click a chart, TradingView’s paper account is enough. You do not need Tradeeon for that. If you want to test a bot before it spends USDT, you need paper on the bot — not a $100k click-simulator.
How to paper a bot on Tradeeon
- Size a DCA idea on the free DCA calculator if that is the bot — no signup.
- Create a Tradeeon account. Charts and paper do not need an exchange key.
- Build or pick the bot you would actually run: a DCA ladder, a Supertrend Signal, or Adaptive Grid.
- In Studio, start it as Paper Trading — not Go Live. Same rules, live Binance prices, virtual fills on the bot card.
- Leave it on through a ranging stretch and one ugly move. If you cannot explain a fill, change the rules. Do not go live.
What a paper week should include
A quiet hour proves almost nothing. You want the market to misbehave once. On this Studio stretch Supertrend stayed red through the drop, then flipped green under the recovery. A paper Signal rule that only goes long after that close would have been out, then in. That is the kind of week you are looking for — one pair, one window, not a typical return.

In a range the same Supertrend rule will chop. That is useful too: you learn the bot is a trend tool, and you switch to Adaptive Grid or DCA instead of tweaking the multiplier again. Walk through that read on the Supertrend page.
What paper cannot fake
- Your pulse when a real bag is red
- Live fees and slippage on a thin book
- Exchange rejects, API limits, and partial fills
A clean paper week means the logic ran. It does not mean the live week will match. Size down when you flip to live.
When you flip to live
Only after you can explain every paper fill. Connect a trade-only Binance.com API key. Withdrawals stay off. One live DCA is included. Start smaller than the paper balance — paper was kinder.
Paper the bot you would actually run
DCA, Signal (including Supertrend), and Adaptive Grid all run in paper on live Binance prices. Charts stay in the same workspace — you do not need a second charting bill to practice.
FAQ
- What is paper trading in crypto?
- Paper trading is practice with live prices and fake money. You see whether a rule would have filled — without spending coins. It is also called demo trading.
- Is TradingView paper trading the same as a bot paper mode?
- No. TradingView paper trading is a click-to-trade simulator on their chart ($100k virtual balance is the usual default). Bot paper mode runs the same automated rules you would run live. Use TradingView if you only want to click a chart. Use bot paper if you want to test automation.
- Does paper trading guarantee the live bot will win?
- No. Paper fills are often kinder: less slippage, no panic, and fees may not match the live book. Treat a good paper week as “the rules behave,” not as a promise.
- Can I paper trade on Tradeeon without a Binance key?
- You can look at charts and the free DCA calculator with no key. Running a paper bot needs a Tradeeon account — not an exchange key. A trade-only Binance.com API key is only required when you go live.
